Assange Faces "very aggressive" investigation by US

Head and founder of Wikileaks Julian Assange, has said that he and his organisation face a "very aggressive" investigation by the United States government, over their recent release of over 250,000 US embassy cables into the public domain.

Speaking from outside Ellingham House in Norfolk,,UK where the journalist and hacker is subject to house arrest, Assange said it was "80% likely" he is to face extradition to the US on espionage charges. Using the public arena to air his need for protection from this action, he said  the American government was "a superpower that does not appear to be following the rule of law".

He expressed his concern at public disclosure. "In the United States, what appears to be a secret grand jury investigation against me, or our organisation – (There is) not a single comment about what is actually going on."

Assange also voiced very real fears for his safety, and that of the US solidier allegedly responsible for the leaks. "There have been many calls by senior political figures in the United States, including elected ones in the Senate, for my execution, the kidnapping of my staff, the execution of the young soldier Bradley Manning ... that's a very, very serious business.
